Beverage Recycling Grants Closing Soon
Community organisations fighting against litter have less than two weeks left to apply for grants of up to $10,000 from Keep Australia Beautiful.
Keep Australia Beautiful National Chief Executive Officer Peter McLean said there had been a steady stream of applications for this year’s program, but there was still money available.
“Across the ACT, drink containers continue to be one of the most littered items,” Mr McLean said.
“Coca Cola Foundation and Coca Cola South Pacific, in partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful will offer $422,000 for successful applicants.
“The grants are available for individuals, communities and organisations to implement projects which make long term impacts on beverage container recycling.
“Programs which are more likely to receive funding need to help educate people about correct waste disposal, the cause and effect of recycling and look at how to enforce best practice principals in local communities.
“Each program needs to have a focus on beverage containers, which for example, could include recycling infrastructure at public venues.
“These grants are an extremely important part of Keep Australia Beautiful’s holistic approach to litter reduction. With strong community involvement we can achieve greater results across our big backyard.”
To date, more than 190 community programs have received funding through the Beverage Container Recycling Community Grants, and more than $1.66 million has been awarded since the program began in 2010.
Last year, grants were given to 71 different council groups, schools, sporting clubs and community organisations.
In the ACT there were two recipients: St Mary MacKillop College at both Wanniassa and Isabella Plains.
Applications close on Monday 30 June 2014.
