City of Holdfast Bay are the South Australian Sustainable Cities overall title holders for 2014, won at the KESAB environmental solutions (Keep South Australia Beautiful) Sustainable Communities Awards in late August. This now makes them the state finalist for the Keep Australia Beautiful, Australian Sustainable Cities Awards. The National awards will be held in November, hosted by last year’s National winner, the City of Marion.
Holdfast Bay will be visited by Australian Sustainable Cities judge Cameron Little next week, to compare them to finalists from all over the country.
Mr Little said, “To be recognised on a national stage is quite the achievement for Holdfast Bay. I can’t wait to see their winning projects first hand.”
The Australian Sustainable Cities Awards encourage, motivate and celebrate the local sustainability achievements of urban communities across Australia, and have been running since 2007.
Every state and territory will be participating this year, and the other finalists are:
- Brimbank City Council, Victoria
- Brisbane City Council, Queensland
- City of Bunbury, Western Australia
- Canberra Urban Honey, Australian Capital Territory
- Glenorchy City Council, Tasmania
- City of Manly, New South Wales
- City of Palmerston, Northern Territory.
The Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Sustainable Cities Awards are sponsored by the Australian Packaging Covenant. The principal event sponsor is City of Marion, the 2013 Australian Sustainable Cities Winner. Thank you to our other event sponsors, TAFE South Australia and Solar Bins Australia.
