Beverage Container Recycling Grants

In 2015 Keep Australia Beautiful awarded 14 Grants to Queensland totalling $50,995.00 for Beverage Container Recycling Programs.

The Beverage Container Recycling Community Grants Program, funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola South Pacific in partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful, has in the past six years invested more than $2 million in local community projects that demonstrate a measurable result in diverting beverage containers out of landfill, through increased recycling at a local level.

Case Study:

BigDog Support Services Pty Ltd – Toowoomba

LiveBig! LiveRecycling!

The LiveBig! life skills program is designed for young people with a disability who have graduated from high school and require additional support and education in life skills, community and social inclusion, higher education and employment. It has been proven that by utilising peer support and multiple formats of providing information, specifically graphics and stories, people with an intellectual disability obtain a greater depth of understanding of the topic.

The Beverage Container Recycling Program Grant they received enabled BigDog to create and implement an educational program to help young people living with intellectual disabilities. This project included developing a suite of information, education and YouTube videos to increase understanding by young people with intellectual disabilities of the importance of recycling as part of the LiveBig! life skills program. Participants of BigDog day service were introduced to recycling practices in an initial 3 week learning period. This included documentaries and informative films about recycling, activities and craft projects relative to recycling, and finished with the creation of 3 short films by participants.
