Since 1965, Keep Australia Beautiful has been inspiring and empowering community action to protect and enhance our environment. We run public awareness behaviour change campaigns and community engagement programs that promote sustainable behaviour while calling upon Australians to “Do the Right Thing” when it comes to litter and waste.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Australia launched the DO THE RIGHT THING campaign, which to this day, is still known as the most successful anti-litter campaign in Australia. This catchy commercial still resonates strongly with those who grew up in this era and we want to remind Australian’s that these messages around littering and climate change are just as relevant today!

2023 DO THE RIGHT THING #ReduceWhatsInYourBin
As populations grow and our convenient lifestyles produce more waste, we all have a responsibility to lead by example, reduce our waste and prevent litter pollution.
In 2023 the Do the Right Thing messaging moved to choosing from the 6Rs of Waste (Refuse, Rot, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Renew). Participants were encouraged to share stories about how they had successfully reduced their waste, and formed waste-reducing habits. Participants created videos, took photos or shared posts on social media to show how they had engaged with the spirit of Do The Right Thing during KAB Week.
2021 DO THE RIGHT THING
It’s been decades since we launched the first ‘Do The Right Thing’ campaign. For those old enough to remember the iconic ad’s jingle, it was a call-to-arms for Aussies to get behind litter prevention.
Fast forward to the 2021 Campaign and we breathed new life into the brand, but the messages still remained the same. DO THE RIGHT THING by putting your rubbish in the bin will help Keep Australia Beautiful.
