When we drop litter, it doesn’t just disappear. It travels through our streets, parks and waterways, breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces — until it becomes microplastics.
Marine animals mistake these tiny pieces for food. Fish and seabirds consume them, and the chain reaction begins. Those same plastics can end up back in the food we eat, meaning litter isn’t just an environmental issue — it’s a human health issue.
A Little Taste of Plastic is our latest campaign, launched post-KAB Week, to remind Australians that litter prevention is an all-year-round responsibility. The biodiversity impacts of plastic pollution are devastating — it destroys habitats, pollutes food sources, and threatens the survival of some of our most beloved wildlife.
Cutting back on plastic helps stop this cycle before it starts. Try:
  • Switching to reusable food storage and drink bottles.
  • Shopping at bulk food stores to avoid excess packaging.
  • Choosing biodegradable or compostable alternatives when possible.
The message is simple:
  • Don’t want a rubbish diet? Don’t litter.
  • Share the message.
  • Take part in anti-litter action year-round — not just during KAB Week.
Help us spread the word — because everyone is part of this environment, and it starts with us.
Kids. Small – but MIGHTY – in the fight against litter!
