Dulux and Keep Australia Beautiful:
Protecting for Generations

Our Mission

We are on a mission to grow a community committed to facing environmental challenges. Through the Paint Australia Beautiful School Mural Competition, we inspire students to think deeply about their role in protecting our environment for years to come. By revitalising school walls into vibrant community landmarks, we ensure that the beauty and integrity of our shared spaces protects for generations.

The 2026 Focus

This year, we are challenging students to create nature-inspired designs centered on three critical environmental pillars:

Litter Prevention: Inspiring cleaner communities through art.
Waste Management: Highlighting creative solutions for a sustainable future.

Biodiversity: Celebrating and protecting our unique local ecosystems and supporting a “Future Without Harm”.

Think. Design. Create.

The process is designed for maximum involvement and impact:

Think: Brainstorm nature-inspired ideas in the classroom
Design: Submit your mural design along with the story behind your inspiration
Create: A winning school from every state will be awarded premium Dulux paint and supplies to turn their vision into a reality

Why Get Involved?

Beyond transforming a blank wall, your school can win significant support for future projects:

State Prizes: Premium Dulux paint and supplies for eight winning state murals.

National Grand Prize: A $5,000 cash grant for the National People’s Choice winner to fund school sustainability projects.
Lasting Legacy: Commemorative plaques and student keepsakes to celebrate your school’s contribution to the environment.

Everything you need to know about the Paint Australia Beautiful mural competition

  • What is it?
The Paint Australia Beautiful Schools Mural Competition invites students to create nature-inspired murals that capture their vision for a cleaner, more sustainable Australia. The competition fosters in students a sense of civic responsibility and eco-consciousness, encouraging them to protect and preserve local biodiversity.

  • When is it?
Paint Australia Beautiful – Schools Competition, officially opens in Term 1. We welcome you to register your interest prior to this date using this form.

  • How to enter?
Brainstorm your ideas as an individual student, a class, a year or school, then put your pen, pencil or paint brush to paper and start designing your proposed wall mural. (We suggest using at least an A3 piece of paper to give yourself plenty of room, and design in full colour). In your application, your primary school will upload a photo of your proposed blank internal or external wall (Approx 10-20sqm), along with a photo of your mural design, and an explanation about your mural, why it was chosen, and how it connects with your local environment.

  • When do submissions close?
Submissions will close around Fri 3 July. Entries will be judged, and shortlisted finalists will be announced for each State/Territory. Public voting will be open from Mon 20 July – Fri 31 July.

  • How do we become a State Finalist?
A public vote will determine a winner for each State/Territory from the shortlisted designs, and winning primary schools will be announced in August. These schools will be provided with paint and supplies by our paint partner Dulux Australia; and be given approximately 12 weeks to complete their murals on their chosen external walls.

  • How do we win the National People’s Choice Award?
There will be an unveiling of your mural masterpiece once it’s complete, and we encourage you to invite local council, media or members of your community to this event. Your school will be awarded a Keep Australia Beautiful Plaque to display alongside the mural. The completed murals will then be posted on social media for a week of public voting early in Term 4 to determine the overall National People’s Choice Award Winner which will be announced in November.
