From Australia Day celebrations to Curry Day and Clean Up Australia Day, these events create opportunities for connection, participation and community pride. Why does this matter? 🌊♻️ Tidy Towns Finalist Spotlight ♻️🌊 We’re excit 🌊♻️ Tidy Towns Finalist Spotlight ♻️🌊 We’re excited to highlight one of our national finalist projects for the 2026 Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards… 📍 Mornington Peninsula, VIC Category: Circular Economy and Waste Reduction Finalist Project: Shell Savers – from landfill to habitat This innovative project is turning waste into opportunity by transforming discarded shellfish shells into thriving marine habitats. Through strong partnerships with community groups, local businesses and Traditional Owners, shells that would have gone to landfill are cleaned, cured and reused to rebuild vital shellfish reefs in Port Phillip and Western Port Bays. Why does this matter? More than 70% of shellfish reefs in these areas have been lost. By restoring them, this project is helping to improve water quality, boost biodiversity and rebuild critical ecosystems that support marine life. It’s a powerful example of a circular economy in action, where waste is not just reduced, but regenerated into something valuable for the environment. 💚 Want to learn more about the national finalists?
